CM: Village heads should have a role in line with the latest technology

SHAH ALAM, 19 Dec: The role of village heads is very important as representatives of the government in delivering information on policies to be implemented although the current approach is different according to the times.

The Chief Minister of Selangor, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the challenges and demands are also different in ensuring the harmony of community living.

He said that technological advances such as using smartphones and the internet also makes village heads a part of it, thus facilitating their duties to the people.

“The challenges of village heads are now more compared to before. The definition of village now is not the same as 10 or 20 years ago.

“The hopes and demands are also different, especially for their children who receive education from within or outside the country.

“When the return, of course their demand is different in line with current technological advances,” he said during the Selangor State Traditional Village Heads Services Appreciation Ceremony yesterday.

He said that the pulse of the people can be felt even closer, thus being able to find suitable solutions to problems in addition to maintaining the identity of traditional villages from the present technology.

During the same speech, Mohamed Azmin, who became the Chief Minister 88 days ago, also touched on the development of infrastructure with an increase of provisions by almost 300 percent for 2015.

Among the aspects touched were on the state of community halls that are dilapidated and in need of repair, the road conditions which need to be resurfaced and the issue of the cleanliness of the surroundings.

In addition, he also urged the State Assemblymen and State Government Exco to hand some provisions to village heads to help them carry out programmes to help the people.

At the same event, Mohamed Azmin also presented certificates of service appreciation to nine village heads from all districts in Selangor who will be ending their services for the 2014 session at the end of this month.

Overall, the Selangor government has 368 village heads.
