SHAH ALAM, 25 Dec: The Selangor Humanitarian Aid Mission Association (PANTAS) launched a Volunteer Mission as a sign of solidarity to help the flood victims in the East Coast.

Overall, over 30,000 flood victims from Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang are facing difficult situations due to continuous rainfall in addition to the release of water from the dams that have caused some areas to be flooded.

The incident this time has been understood to be the worst since 10 years ago.

In Kelantan, this flood disaster is considered to be the worst in the history of the state when there was non-stop rain in the upper reaches carrying a swift current into several major regions in the state.

The entrance into Kelantan was also cut off when Jalan Kota Bharu-Kuala Krai had to be closed due to overflowing from Sungai Durian.

Based on the Kelantan government e.banjir (e.flood) portal report, 126 evacuation centres have been opened involving 26,749 flood victims as of this morning.

Meanwhile in Terengganu, flood involved all districts and Kemaman recorded the highest number of flood victims so far, totalling 13,143 victims.

The critical flood disaster that hit the East Coast involved the access to main routes in each state to be cut off, hampering efforts by the Selangor Humanitarian Aid Mission Association (PANTAS) to deliver aid.

The first team with the strength of 10 people, which was scheduled to depart on December 26, was forced to cancel their intentions until the situation recovers.

Meanwhile, the second team of 40 people are scheduled to mobilise on December 28.
