People welcome establishment of special committee for development SOP

SHAH ALAM, 8 Jan: The Selangor government’s intention to establish a special committee to ensure that standard operating procedures (SOP) are observed in every development project in the state has received positive reaction from the people.

Shaifudin Mohamed, 48, said that developments will be carried out according to plan and built more carefully with the existence of this special committee.

“This is a good development. There is no need to wait for a new catastrophe before finding the cause and solution.

“It shows that the Selangor government cares about the people and want every development built to include the human element,” he said when met by Selangor Kini at the Worldwide Trade Centre today.

Prior to this, the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the state government will ensure that the approval of each development in Selangor will be done more carefully in heed of the natural disaster in the East Coast recently.

Hence, the state government intends to establish a special committee to ensure that the SOP are followed, as decided by the State Executive Council (MMKN) recently.

Meanwhile, Mazri Abd Malik, 44, said that the effort is wise as many development projects today that failed to be built according to the SOP ultimately led to unexpected incidents.

“It should be established because of the many cases exposed in the media. Landslides, flash floods and cracks in the foundations due to failing to develop according to the SOP.

“Of course the people want the best for the future if similar disasters (floods) happen in Selangor,” he said.

For Borhan Muse, 37, he hopes that the state government will carry out the same effort in flood-prone areas to ensure that flood cases can be prevented, in addition to guaranteeing a better quality of life for the people.

“In flood-prone areas, we can see that other than the factor of low earth surface, it is also caused from the problem of waste in rivers, shallow ditches and the absence of flood mitigation areas.

“This should be taken seriously so that cases of flooding can be avoided in the future,” he said.
