PJ one-way road project continues

PETALING JAYA, 29 Jan: The second phase on the one-way road project around the city of Petaling Jaya, involving several main roads in the area, will continue in line with the needs of the present time.

The acting mayor of Petaling Jaya, Puasa Mf Taib, said that it is a continuation of phase one of the one-way road project which was implemented by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) about three months ago.

He said studies on the one-way road had been already conducted by MBPJ since 1992 and several series of meetings was held throughout the year to discuss the matter.

We also held a meeting with the local residents to obtain their views and needs regarding the matter, and the results were communicated the other day during the MBPJ meeting,” he said.

At the same time, Puasa said that MBPJ will appoint a road safety audit team to review the implementation stage until the project is fully completed.

He said that it is to ensure that the one-way road is safe to be used by road users for the long term.

“The audit will be done at the implementation time when the project is running until it is fully completed because we really care about the safety of the users.

“In addition, we will also conduct a census through Merdeka Centre, in addition to holding meetings to discuss the aspect of safety and this one-way road can be used to the maximum by the residents,” he said.

Among the directions of traffic flow to main destinations involved with the implementation of the one-way road are Jalan Sultan, Jalan Barat, Jalan Timur, Jalan Utara and Jalan Yong Shook Lin.

It involves eight areas; Amcorp Mall, Hilton Hotel, Malaysian Productivity Corporation (MPC), the Road Transport Department, the Chemistry Department, the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court, the MBPJ Civic Hall, the Petaling Jaya Police Station, the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), the Tun Hussein Onn Eye Hospital and MBPJ Tower.
