PPAS: Safety of rural library users a priority

SHAH ALAM, 7 Jan: The Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) prioritises the aspect of safety in rural libraries for the convenience of users and officers.

The Director of PPAS, Mastura Mohamed, said that the existing libraries are constantly being upgraded; the same goes for the services of their staff.

“This year, we are in the process of re-branding and upgrading four rural libraries. Among the measures being taken include changing wooden doors to glass doors and the installation of air-conditioning in the libraries.

“Fence installation is also being done. It is to ensure safety and avoid untoward incidents like being trespassed,” she told Selangor Kini.

PPAS hopes that all facilities can be provided at all rural libraries gradually and become the location of choice to be visited in the future.

Mastura admits that most rural libraries under the operation of PPAS are located at remote locations and only some are fenced.

“We will perform the process of re-branding and upgrading in certain areas with the aspect of safety being the priority.

“It is a way for employees and visitors to feel safe and comfortable,” she said.
