Thunderstorms in 4 states today

SHAH ALAM, 5 Jan: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued warning of comprehensive strong winds, rough seas and thunderstorms in several states, starting today.

On its website, MetMalaysia reported that comprehensive thunderstorms occurring in the waters of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca and Sarawak are expected to persist until today.

Meanwhile, strong Northeasterly winds of 40-50 kmph with waves up to 3.5 metres are expected to occur over the waters off Pahang, East Johore, Kelantan, Terengganu, Sarawak, Sabah (Interior, West Coast and Kudat) and Labuan FT are expected to continue until Thursday, 8th January 2015.

“This condition can cause strong winds of up to 50 kmph and rough seas with waves of up to 3.5 metres, and is dangerous to small boats, sea recreation and sea sports,” they said.

Meanwhile, the weather forecast for seven days, starting January 5 to 11, shows rain and thunderstorms hitting east areas like Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.

Yesterday, the waters of Pahang, East Johore, Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan were exposed to strong winds of 60 kmph and waves as high as 4.5 metres.

MetMalaysia expects an episode of monsoon rains to occur starting January 7 or 8.

In relation to that, MetMalaysia advised residents at risk of the monsoon season flooding to keep themselves abreast on weather updates.
