Central government should emulate CM’s firmness in cancelling the Kidex project

SHAH ALAM, 16 Feb: The central government should emulate the firmness of the Selangor government that cancelled the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) project which has been a dispute all this while regarding the necessity of this project.

The Damansara Utama Assemblyman, Yeo Bee Yin, said that the concessionaire was given enough time to prove to the state government that the project was relevant to be carried out.

But after the given period, the concession company still failed to do so.

“This is a good decision. The Selangor government gave enough time to the developer, but they were not able to prove the benefits of this project.

“The Minister of Public Works should emulate the actions of the Selangor government,” she said when contacted by Selangor Kini.

The Selangor State Assembly Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, through Twitter, welcomed the firm stance by the Selangor government to cancel the project.

“(A) firm stand,” she said in reply of the Twitter post by the Chief Minister of Selangor, Mohamed Azmin Ali.

The Bukit Gasing Assemblyman, Rajiv Rishyakaran, said that the Selangor government now needs to focus on a plan to develop public transportation to overcome traffic congestion.

“I support the stance and decision of the Chief Minister on this issue since the Selangor government gave special conditions (to the concession company), but they failed to observe it.

“After this, the Selangor government needs to focus on a public transportation plan like what was done in Singapore,” he said.

Today, the Selangor government announced the cancellation of the project following the concession company’s failure to comply with three conditions set prior to February 14, 2015.
