SUBANG JAYA, 7 Feb: Owners and tenants of the People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Selangor need to be more responsible and disciplined in paying their monthly maintenance cost to cover the expenses of repairing their residential infrastructure.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the PPR was formerly built by the federal government and then handed over to local authorities to be maintained.

He said that an allocation of RM5 million has already been approved by the state government to upgrade PPRs in Selangor, which are synonymous with elevator, garbage and building problems.

“We are also asking the PPR home owners to be responsible for contributing to the maintenance costs.

“Actually, the cost of RM15 per unit is very small, but most do not pay maintenance costs. I hope that they will all be responsible for this because it involves cleaning and reparation for PPR homes,” he told the media after the Search and Destroy Aedes programme.

He said that serious problems are faced by several PPRs in Selangor because it is occupied by foreigners, thus being among the causes of local problems.

Taking the example of Singapore, Mohamed Azmin said that the country does not allow low-cost housing to be rented to outsiders.

Previously, some unwanted incidents occurred at several PPRs , including sacrificing the lives of the local residents.

Recently, the public was shocked by the death of Muhammad Zul Haziq Danish Aiden, 5, who fell through the iron grill while playing with his brother at the PPR at Section 8, Kota Damansara.
