PR to achieve joint agreement, discuss the issue of local authority elections and Hudud

KUALA LUMPYR, 8 Feb: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will hold a special meeting to discuss the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code (II) Enactment and the proposal for local authority elections.

The PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said that a joint decision will be reached during the PR Leadership Council meeting, thus celebrating the differences of views between all component parties regarding the issues involved.

“PR will continue to celebrate the differences in views between the parties. The council agreed to hold a special meeting to discuss and formulate solutions on the Syariah Criminal Code (II) Enactment and local authority elections,” he said during a press conference at the PAS Headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut.

Anwar said that the Kelantan Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Mohamad Amar Nik Abdullah, will also be present to explain about the Syariah Criminal Code (II) Enactment, representing the Kelantan government.

In efforts to strengthen PR relations with the component parties, he said that the Pakatan Rakyat Convention will be held in Kuala Lumpur on May 10.

Anwar said that all PR component parties agreed to join in their agendas and all decisions will be made on the principle of mutual cooperation.

“We have agreed for the PR convention to be held on May 10. We will support all measures to strengthen PR, involving party politics and NGOs to find solutions on current issues, especially the economy and racial tension,” he said.

The meeting today is the first to be held by PR after the last meeting in October last year.

All top leaders of the three parties; the PAS President, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi; the PKR President, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail; and the DAP Advisor, Lim Kit Siang, were present at the meeting that almost lasted an hour.
