Selangor PAS: Elections will not improve local authority delivery system

AMPANG, 8 Feb: The local government elections are seen as being unable to help in improving the delivery system of local authorities to the people.

The Selangor PAS Chairman, Datuk Iskandar Abd Samad, said that this is because the move will only involve the election of council members only and does not include employees of the local authorities.

“Selangor PAS is with the central because the focus is not the election on council members but to improve service.

“Now, the accountability of council members is high and we need to ensure that local authority staff and its delivery system is improved even more.

“Fixing the delivery system is not through local government elections but through other efforts,” said Iskandar who is also the Selangor government Exco for Housing, Building Management and Urban Living.

Iskandar said this when attending the Pandan Consultative Council Explanation Ceremony (MPRP) at the Pandan Indah Council Member’s Hall yesterday.

He said that local authorities and the state government should focus on how to improve the effectiveness of the agency’s delivery system.

Prior to this, DAP asked the Selangor government to hold local government elections as contained in the manifesto between the party and the People’s Justice Party (PKR).

However, this had not yet been decided by the state government until the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Supreme Leadership Council meeting today.
