1MDB debt issue heats up DNS session

SHAH ALAM, 31 Mar: The Selangor State Assembly (DNS) this morning was heated up with the 1MDB debt issue which has been implicated as one of the reasons why the central government is allegedly nearly bankrupt.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, was asked about the motive why the central government wants to sweep up all water assets and land owned by the state government through the water industry restructuring agreement.

“I am not sure, but from information there is the possibility of the economic factor that the Federal Government is almost bankrupt and has no money to finalise the agreement.

“It also has to do with links with 1MDB where their debts have now reached RM45 billion,” he said, answering a supplementary question from Ng Suee Lim (DAP-Sekinchan).

Prior to this, Mohamed Azmin answered a question regarding the status of the water negotiations with the central government.

The Answer led Datuk Shamsudin Lias (BN-Sungai Burong) to interrupt, demanding Mohamed Azmin to show evidence that the central government is almost bankrupt and has links with 1MDB.

“If you want detailed explanations, listen to the briefing from Tun Mahathir which has documents with complete and valid facts.

“How can a corrupt government allow a company that is directly connected to the supreme leader to owe up to RM45 billion.

“So, whatever happens to this company would definitely be directly related to the country’s banking system,” he said.
