SHAH ALAM, 13 Mar: Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) Assemblymen need to take turns for the role as the Leader of the Opposition in the Selangor State Assembly (DNS).

Permatang Assemblyman, Sulaiman Abdul Razak, said that the decision is being taken as there are no mandatory requirements to set the role.

“It is not a big deal because there is no mandatory requirement of the role in the assembly rules and the DNS Constitution unless the Leader of the Opposition is required in the Assembly rules, we will not place (a candidate).

“The Assembly session this time and the next, we will take turns,” he told Selangor Kini.

The 3rd Term of the 13th DNS session will take place with a Leader of the Opposition from BN.

This was confirmed by the DNS Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, after receiving a letter from the Selangor BN recently.

However, the Selangor BN did not give any reasons for the rejection of the appointment.

Commenting further, Sulaiman said that the Assembly session will take place as usual and the absence of a Leader of the Opposition will not hold back the course of the Assembly session.

“The important thing is the content of debates which will be brought up by us Assemblymen.

“The people can see for themselves during the Assembly session. We will debate and bring up people’s issues as usual, even without a Leader of the Opposition,” he said.

For official purposes of political relations between the government and the opposition, the Selangor BN unanimously appointed the Batang Kali Assemblyman, Mat Nadzri Ahmad Dahlan, as the BN Assemblymen Coordinator.

He is also the new Selangor Umno Liaison Deputy Chairperson replacing Abdul Shukur Idris (Kuang Assemblyman).
