Petition to White House achieves target

SHAH ALAM, 11 Mar: The petition to release Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the White House managed to collect 109,683 signatures at 1 pm today.

This early success was obtained before the expiry day of the petition (tomorrow) and it requires 100,000 signatures to warrant a response from the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama.

However, the petition which is being undertaken by the former United States Ambassador to Malaysia, John Malott, was removed from the White House website yesterday because it violated the ‘Terms of Participation’.

It was suspended for 14 hours when it needed about 4,000 more signatures to reach its target.

The petition was launched since Anwar was sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted on charges in the Defamation Case 2 on February 10.
