SHAH ALAM, 22 Mar: The 30 percent quota policy of women being in the position to make policies is getting better but needs to be improved to empower the role of women in the country.

The state Exco for Health, Welfare, Women’s Affairs and Family, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that the target can be realised in the next few years with commitment from related parties.

“But it looks like it is not enough and that is why we are continuing this effort.

“In the next few years, we will achieve the target set and the gender gap in Malaysia will become better,” she said.

Daroyah said this after the opening ceremony of the Selangor Women’s Day and the pre-launch of the Selangor Orchid Fashion Festival 2015 today.

She said that in the context of Selangor, the state government had indeed given space and is moving towards this direction by approaching the targeted quota.

“In Selangor the opportunity for women is wide open, but outside Selangor, we are not sure,” she said.
