270 students selected to receive RM6.5 million education loan

SHAH ALAM, 19 Apr: A total of 270 students were offered an education loan for the first session of 2015 with a total sponsorship of RM6.5 million.

The Exco for Education, Human Capital Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, said that the application for the second session of the Selangor State Education Loan will be open in August.

He said that the incentive is to motivate students to be more outstanding and is a recognition for the efforts and achievements obtained.

“Outstanding students under this scheme have the opportunity to change their loan scheme if they manage to complete their studies with excellent results.

“This entitles them to obtain a reduction in the repayments or be exempted from repayment (scholarship),” he said at the document presentation ceremony for recipients of the Selangor State Government Education Loan at the Silver Jubilee Hall.

The Selangor State Education Loan is an education assistance through the Selangor State Scholarship Fund (TKWBNS).

For the first session of 2015, applications were open for a month, starting from February 1 to February 28, with 1,185 applications received.

He said among the incentives offered includes a RM1,000 gift to students from families earning RM3,000 and below to further their education at higher education institutions within and outside the country.

“The incentive has benefited 59,848 students since its implementation in 2008 up to 2014 under the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) policy,” he said.
