Cartoonist: Selangor exhibits works more openly & freely compared to the Federal Government

PETALING JAYA, 26 Apr: The organisation of the cartoon art programme in Selangor is seen as being more open and professional without any content restrictions.

Famous cartoonist Zunar said that the freedom given by Pakatan Rakyat has never been enjoyed at the Federal Government level.

“This is not the first time. It previously happened in Shah Alam where my works were displayed without content restrictions or filtration.

“Normally, we would filter it first elsewhere so as to not touch on some issues, especially politics,” he told Selangor Kini.

He was met at the Selangor Cartoon World programme organised by the state government and the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), in collaboration with the Independent Cartoon Group (KKI).

Acknowledging the public’s acceptance of political satire cartoons, Zunar hopes that the state government will provide more platforms for such work.

“Our cartoonist group will continue to be with PR in carrying out our responsibilities to enlighten the people about the country’s current issues.

“The main goal at the moment is only one; to topple BN for the country’s progress. As long as BN exists, Malaysia will not be developed,” he said.
