PKR urges Chew to apologise for belittling the potential of women

KUBANG SEMANG, 27 Apr: PKR urges the Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datin Chew Mei Fun, to apologise to all women across the country, especially housewives in Permatang Pauh.

A Central Leadership Council Member, Rodziah Ismail, said that Mei Fun’s statement gives a picture that the role of women in national institutions are belittled.

In a talk last night, Chew, who had competed against Wan Azizah in the Kajang by-election previously, disputed the PKR President because of the ‘tricks’ displayed all this while.

“She (Mei Fun), as a female Deputy Minister, should not have issued such a statement.

“I want to ask, is she a woman? Or is she of different sex?” she asked during a press conference at the Yayasan Aman Building.

Rodziah also reminded that the PKR candidate, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, previously served as a member of parliament for two terms.

In fact, she said, Wan Azizah also became the first woman to be appointed as the leader of the opposition in this country.

Rodziah also asked female voters to not vote for the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate.

“They forgot that most female voters here are housewives, so I ask that we reject them (BN),” she said.
