RM30 million to repair low-cost houses from BN’s era

KAJANG, 24 May: The state government spent RM30 million to repair the various damages at low-cost flats built during the ear of Barisan Nasional (BN).

The Exco for Housing, Building Management and Urban Living, Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad, said that BN took a hands-off attitude towards the quality of construction and the developers’ ability to complete their respective projects, causing many problems to arise.

“Almost all low-cost houses built before this are of poor quality. Now, residents are burdened with many problems.

“Houses they have painstakingly bought have become a hell to them,” he said during the Launching and Registration Ceremony of the Gamuda Land Berhad Affordable Homes in Jade Hills yesterday.

Iskandar said that some buyers have to pay their loan but the projects involved have been abandoned for a long time or not built, forcing them to live in low-quality houses.

In relation to that, the state government has set up the Selangorku Homes Quality Monitoring (KUASEL) special team to overcome the problems of low-quality housing and failure of developers to complete their projects on schedule.
