Stubborn hawkers, MPS issues 36 notices

SELAYANG, 29 May: Hawkers are urged to not conduct business at locations that are not allowed by the Sepang Municipal Council (MPS) because it is against the law.

The Yang Dipertua of MPS, Sulaiman Abd Rahman, said that the Enforcement and Safety Department has taken action by issuing compounds and notices to unlicensed hawkers.

“A total of 36 notices was issued by MPS on March 13. We advise them to apply for business licence permits because most of them are poor and needy people who still have to make a living.

“By having a permit, hawkers are allowed to do business but must comply with certain conditions set by MPS,” he said during the MPS full meeting today.

Sulaiman said that the notices were issued to hawkers because they received complaints from the public because the business site was not cleaned after being left and there was traffic congestion in the morning.

“Congestion happens because people stop by the street to buy breakfast.

“Hawkers are advised to comply with the prescribed business hours to avoid congestion and to maintain the cleanliness of the area for the convenience of the public,” he said.
