Delay in Umno elections, Najib’s strategy to avoid expulsion

SHAH ALAM, 29 June: The decision to postpone the Umnno election is the strategy of its President, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, from being challenged in the party election.

Pokok Sen MP, Datuk Mahfuz Omar, said that this is because Najib’s image has plummeted in the eyes of Umno members due to attacks from all corners following controversies and scandals involving him.

“It is Najib’s strategy to hold the Sarawak State Elections simultaneously with the 14th General Election (GE14), and also to prevent his expulsion.

“Umno’s moral situation is bad, he fears that there will be a major shift and he will be challenged, and possible eliminated. It indicated that direction,” he said when contacted by Selangor Kini today.

He said that many Umno members realise that Najib is becoming a liability that could darken the future of the party.

On June 26, Najib announced that the Umno election, which should take place next year, will be postponed for 18 months to allow party leaders to focus on serving the people and strengthening the party.

His Deputy, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in a statement last year, hopes that the election will not be postponed.
