SHAH ALAM, 23 June: The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) reminded all leaders of mosques and suraus throughout the state to perform 20 cycles of tarawih prayers.

The JAIS Director, Datuk Haris Kasim, said that the reminder was recommended by the state Mufti Department previously.

He said that it is to avoid misunderstandings in carrying out the number of cycles of the prayer, either eight or 20 cycles.

“As we all know, the guidelines from JAIS was issued to all mosques and suraus in the stat on June 12.

“However, JAIS still received several complaints regarding the implementation of the tazkirah during the middle of the tarawih prayers,” he said in a statement.

Haris said that JAIS also advised that the tarawih must be done after the congregational prayers.

He said that the focus should be on the tarawih prayers because the practice is only done during the Ramadan.
