Mayor confident one-way street will be completed earlier

PETALING JAYA, 23 June: The one-way street project in the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) area is now moving two percent ahead of schedule.

The Mayor of MBPJ, Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain, said that this is because the contractor appointed is working day and night.

He said that the project is expected to be completed in August 2016 before being implemented to the public.

“We will inform the contractor to carry out during the day, but not during peak hours, so that this project can be completed within a short period of time.

“We are also preparing maps at specific areas such as the MBPJ headquarters and Amcorp Mall for reference because the residents still do not see the product (the one-way street),” he said during an interview with the media at the MBPJ headquarters recently.

Mohd Azizi said that MBPJ asked consultants to monitor the implementation of the one-way street to identify if there are any problems.

He said that complaints from residents are also taken into account to ensure that the project runs smoothly and is beneficial in the long run.

“When completed, we have a certain period to monitor the implementation of the project.

“We need to be dynamic because it will affect the future if monitoring is not carried out,” he said.

The second phase of the one-way project involves Jalan Barat, certain parts of Persiaran Barat, the eastern part of Jalan Utara and the remainder of Jalan Sultan, starting July to November this year.

Other roads such as Yong Shook Lin and the remainder of Persiaran Barat will be developed in the third phase which is scheduled to take place from December to April 2016.

The final phase will witness landscaping and the construction of bus stops, as well as a security fence, and will be completed on August 31, 2016.
