SHAH ALAM, 17 Aug: The drastic move by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, including removing some important people, is clearly in personal interest and not for the sake of the people or the country.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the action was personally confirmed by the Barisan Nasional (BN) Strategic Communications Director, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan, in an interview that was published in The Star on August 16.
Mohamed Azmin formulated that the Prime Minister intentionally disrupted high-level investigations that were underway against 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) that is chaired by him as a result of Abdul Rahman’s disclosure.
“For me, this disruption can lead to a breach of a criminal offense under the Penal Code or the MACC Act (Section 186 and Section 48),” he said in a statement.
Abdul Rahman, in the same interview, revealed that Najib had to get rid of certain people so that the situation would return to normal after realising the existence of the draft charge sheet against him.
The Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government said that the establishment of the 1MDB special task force is probably an initiative by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) without the consent of the cabinet, thus making it invalid.
“This statement seems to be a desperate attempt to support Najib’s drastic measures to calm the investigation, thus placing blame on the IGP,” he said.
Mohamed Azmin, who is also the PKR Deputy President, also refuted allegations by Abdul Rahman that the removal of the Attorney General from the special task force was done based on conflicts of interest.
He said that the Attorney General’s role is important to ensure the smoothness of the investigation, especially with regards to legal issues.
“The final permission is to prosecute civil servants, let alone the Prime Minister should come from the Attorney General.
“The Attorney General may not give such permission without full access and knowledge regarding the development and the investigation,” he said.
In relation to that, Mohamed Azmin said that Najib should take a break while investigation is being conducted due to conflict of interest.
He said that all investigations will eventually go back to Najib, either as the Chairman of 1MDB or regarding the transfer of billions to his personal account.
“This is clear, Najib should resign while he still has dignity,” he said.
