SHAH ALAM, 28 Aug: Over 60 Buddhist and temple associations received a total allocation of RM840,700 today.

Senior Exco, Datuk Teng Chang Khim, said that the amount is part of the RM3.6 million allocated for the group.

He said that the remaining of the provisions will be given to other associations by the end of the year.

“We also presented the contribution to other non-Islamic places of worship such as temples and churches with a total allocation of RM6 million.

“We hope that this initiative will help these places of worship for their maintenance costs for the welfare of their followers,” he told Selangor Kini.

Prior to this, he presented the contribution to the representatives of the Buddhist and temple associations at the SUK Building this morning.

Since 2008, the non-Islamic houses of worship allocation totals RM3 million a year before it was increased to RM6 million since last year.

Elaborating, Chang Khim said that the state government is always attentive to all groups and people from all walks of life and is willing to act in accordance to needs and interests.

“We feel that RM3 million is too little for the three non-Islamic groups, so we increased it to RM6 million,” he said.
