SHAH ALAM, 7 Aug: The story of an elderly man known as Uncle Hashim came into the limelight when it went viral on Facebook since last week.

He perseveres in selling dates at the mosque despite almost being 70 years of age because he has to make ends meet and earn an honest living.

The Selangor Tithe Board (LZS) took the initiative to meet Hashim to hand an express assistance of RM500 to him.

LZS, on Facebook, said that it was done by the distribution officer to find out more about Hashim’s suffering.

“Previously, LZS helped him settle his business premises debt.

“Uncle Hashim was also registered as a poor recipient at LZS and will receive business premises rental assistance, while other assistance will be distributed according to his needs,” they said.

Hashim Jaafar is now running a business selling dates at the Al-Ehsan Mosque in Section 24.
