99 deaths due to dengue, the public should be aware

KAJANG, 12 Sept: 99 cases of death due to dengue were recorded in Selangor for the period of January to 5 September.

The Exco for Health, Welfare, Women and Family Development, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that even though the situation is still under control, but focus still remains a priority on dengue cases until the death rate can be reduced.

“The number of deaths recorded and increase compared to 93 cases until 8 August.

“Every week, the state government will all local authorities and the District Health Offices in Selangor hold meetings to discuss on efforts to reduce the number of dengue cases, which is still alarming,” she said when speaking at the Health Carnival in Taman Tasik Cempaka, Bandar Baru Bangi, today.

Daroyah said that the Hulu Langat district is the second highest with 276 cases reported and brings it to a cumulative from January of 10,750.

“Meanwhile, Petaling still records a high number of 305 cases, Gombak 169 cases and Klang, 152 cases.

“It brings the cumulative total for this year to 45,667 cases.

“In addition to implementation from local authorities and health departments, the community should also join in and combat Aedes for the safety of themselves and their families before being infected with dengue,” she said.

In addition, she said that at the carnival, the state government is offering the Selangor Health Assistance Programme when they help the people in health care bill payments.

“The assistance is given to those who cannot afford to pay health treatment bills such as cataract, small surgeries and kidney dialysis,” she said.
