Delay school session to avoid the effects of the haze

SHAH ALAM, 15 Sept: The state government welcomed the postponement of the school session announced by the Ministry of Education following the increase in the Air Pollutant Index (API) as it approaches unhealthy levels.

The Exco for Education, Human Capital Development, Science and Technology, and Innovation, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, said that the state government is ready to provide cooperation, in addition to reminding parents to restrict children’s outdoor activities.

“We hope that parents minimise outdoor activities with children as it is feared that the haze problem may cause severe health problems.

“I believe that the Health Exco, Dr Daroyah Alwi, is aware of the matter and the state government is ready to help.” he told Selangor Kini.

Prior to this, the Ministry of Education announced that 2,045 schools in five states, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Malacca and Negeri Sembilan, will be closed today.

The state government today also distributed over 3,000 masks to students and teachers from 130 kindergartens across the state that are following the Simulasi Haji Cilik Perdana programme at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque.
