Haze: 17 areas record unhealthy API

SHAH ALAM, 19 Oct: 17 areas recorded unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) readings of over 100 as of 1 pm today.

The report on the Department of Environment (DOE) website shows that four areas in Selangor still remain in the yellow zone, namely Banting with a reading of 164, Port Klang (144), Petaling Jaya (136) and Shah Alam (140).

The highest reading was recorded in Seremban, Negeri Semblian, with 198, in addition to Nilai (160) and Port Dickson (154).

Still remaining unhealthy is Malacca City with 156 and Bukit Rambai (158), in addition to Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur (164), Cheras (131) and Putrajaya (152).

In addition, several areas in Johor also continued to experience unhealthy air, namely Larkin Lama with 103, Muar (135) and Pasir Gudang (102).

Other areas include Tanjung Malim, Perak (106), Tawau, Sabah (159) and Kemaman, Terengganu (103).

Meanwhile, 27 other areas are in the medium category, while the remaining seven are still in the healthy zone.

API readings between 0 to 50 is good, 51 to 100 (medium), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and 301 and above (hazardous).
