MBSA to implement waste separation in 5 locations

SHAH ALAM, JUL 11: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) will start to segregate and separate solid wastes at five locations beginning August this year.

MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Head Shahrin Ahmad said a total of 1,500 houses will be involved in the programme this year.

“Among the locations are Seksyen 19, 24, 31 and Seksyen U5.

“Last year, a total of 15,076 metric tons of recycled materials were collected through this programme within three months, beginning last October,” he said.

Through this programme, every household will be supplied with biodegradable bags to separate waste according to its compositions of plastic, paper, glass and aluminium.

Shahrin said that Selangor has not yet enforced fines against premises and house owners who fail to implement this.

“MBSA hopes that the programme will educate the public to practice and embrace the culture of recycling in their daily lives,” he said.

Prior to this, five areas namely Seksyen 7, 32, U8, U13 and Seksyen U16 were involved in the Pilot Project for Waste Segregation from Home Programme which began last October 2015.
