SHAH ALAM, JUL 10: According to Health, Welfare, Women and Family Development Exco Dr Daroyah Alwi, the selection of items distributed in the Selangor Food Stamp Programme will be improved after the Aidilfitri celebrations.

Daroyah said she has already discussed the matter and identified the items to be changed in order to meet the need of target groups.

“There may be some people who are not satisfied with the type of items that we have distributed.  Therefore, we are taking steps to address this matter.

“We have identified the items that will be changed and we have discussed this matter with relevant parties,” she said to SelangorKini.

Daroyah said that the distribution is targeted towards those with low income, and who have many dependants, and also single mothers.  The focus is not just towards senior citizens.

Every third Friday of the month is the chosen day for ‘Smart Selangor Food Stamp’ Day beginning June 17.

The programme aims to help ease the burden of low income or poor citizens with many children and dependants so that they are well provided for and to ensure that they do not go hungry.

During the tabling of the 2016 Selangor Budget, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali announced RM3 million to be allocated for the success of the programme.

An estimated 5,600 families – among the poorest in Selangor – equivalent to 100 families in each constituency, are expected to benefit from this programme.

Among criteria to be eligible for this programme are that applicants must be born in Selangor or must have resided in Selangor for at least 10 years.

It is open to all races, and applicants must also be among those with monthly income of RM1,500 and lower, and a registered voter in the constituency.
