Federal government should make building affordable SOHO compulsory for developers

SHAH ALAM, AUG 30: Betrayal of people who are in need of housing as reported by some media is not an issue, as the target of building SOHO and SOVO is not the same at all as the affordable Rumah Selangorku.

Housing, Building Management and Urban Settlement Exco Dato’ Iskandar Abdul Samad said that the attempts of certain parties to defame the State Government only reveal their ignorance of real facts.

“Rumah Selangorku is built on residential property but SOHO and SOVO are built on commercial property.

“Land tax, assessment tax and even water and electric tariffs are higher for commercial properties,” he said in a statement.

Iskandar said that Rumah Selangorku also maintains its price between RM42,000 to RM250,000 compared to Federal Government’s affordable housing that reaches RM300,000.

On the introduction of affordable SOHO and SOVO, Iskandar said the State Government has a policy that makes it compulsory for developers to build affordable SOHO and SOVO, and this is different to the Federal Government or the National Front State Government which does not have this policy yet.

“Why is it that they are unwilling to make it compulsory for developers to build affordable units?” he questioned.
