Residents urged to cooperate in fight against Zika

SHAH ALAM, SEP 11: Residents are urged to cooperate with local authorities during the upcoming Denggi-Zika Mega Operation.

Health, Welfare, Women and Family Affairs Exco Dr Daroyah Alwi said that local authorities’ efforts in combating the menace would not succeed without residents’ cooperation.

“Our previous experience showed that residents are less inclined to cooperate, with some not wanting to open the door when local authorities show up at their doorstep.

“We just want to help residents for their own benefit.

“The best example is the recent operation in Seksyen 7 where residents gave their full cooperation and showed that they realise their role,” she said to SelangorKini.

The state government previously issued an order to implement the Denggi-Zika Mega Operation from September 13 to October 12 throughout Selangor.

Daroyah said that resident associations and committees have to play their part in helping local authorities fight dengue.

“Joint management committees in strata areas also have to persuade residents to cooperate.

“Without residents’ cooperation, we worry that our mega efforts will not achieve the desired impact,” she said.
