Fogging is no solution to dengue

BY NAZLI IBRAHIM

AMPANG, NOV 7: Fogging at hot spot locations by parties responsible for eradicating aedes mosquitoes is not a solution to ensure the outbreak of dengue and zika from spreading.

Yang Dipertua Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) Hamid Hussain said the public too needs to play its role in ensuring cleanliness and that there are no breeding spots, especially in homes.

“MPAJ can perform fogging activities, if it is outside of residential areas but this is not the solution as the public needs be responsible in ensuring cleanliness, especially within the home.

“MPAJ has no authority to control cleanliness in a residence but the residents themselves need to ensure that there is no mosquito breeding ground in their homes,” he said to SelangorKini during the Gotong Royong Selangor Tour Programme at Taman Bukit Mulia on November 7.

He explained that few minutes spent on inspecting the home can prevent the spread of dengue fever outbreak.

Speaking about the gotong royong programme, Hamid said that the proactive attitude of residents in Taman Bukit Mulia should be an example to residents in other areas.

“Programmes like this can create awareness among residents to cooperate in ensuring cleanliness, and at the same time, promote a friendly neighbourhood.

“The gotong royong programme this morning has received very good response, as I learned that about 250 people attended this programme,” he added.

Meanwhile, Taman Bukit Mulia Residents Chairman Amin Osman was proud of the response shown by residents involved.

“Taman Bukit Mulia was chosen to represent Gombak District in the programme COMBI (Communication for Behavioural Impact) Selangor-wide Tour organised by the Selangor Health Department; and because of that, we held this programme,” he said.

He explained that the programme was in collaboration with MPAJ, Gombak Health Office, JKP Zon 5 and Taman Bukit Mulia Residents Association.

He said apart from gotong royong programmes, there are also competitions for best park zone, childrens colouring contest and COMBi Squad exhibitions.
