Policeman shot by African in Sri Damansara

PETALING JAYA, NOV 23: A policeman was shot and injured by an African man in Jalan Persiaran Industri, Bandar Sri Damansara on November 22.

In the 6 pm incident, the Lance Corporal known as Syarom, from Balai Sri Damansara Patrol Car Unit was injured in his left thigh, BERNAMA reported.

According to a police spokesman, he is in stable condition and is being treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital.

He said Syarom and his colleagues were on anti-crime patrol when they spotted a suspicious-looking white Perodua Myvi.

“The policemen then pursued the Myvi carrying three African men, for approximately 2km. The Myvi then rammed several other vehicles in a bid to escape,” said the spokesman.

“Syarom was shot when he tried to chase one of the suspects fled when their car stopped,” he said.

He said all three African men managed to escape and abandon the vehicle at a junction of a traffic light in the area.

A resident who wanted to be known only as Mun, said that she saw the suspect fleeing and leaving the car behind by the roadside.

“I heard gunshots and saw large African men fleeing the scene before police arrived,” said the women.

Deputy Chief Police of Petaling Jaya District Supt Mohd Ali Thamby confirms the incident and that further investigation is underway.
