PETALING JAYA, MAY 24: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) wants a well though-out development plan including infrastructural facilities in the city.
Petaling Jaya Mayor, Dato’ Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said it includes recreational area, public facilities in residential areas, network of new roads or road upgrading and public transportation services.
He said, the initiative is implemented to drive towards a sustainable and prosperous Petaling Jaya with quality infrastructure and public services.
“Some of the Mercer Quality of Living criterias seen as most relevant to Petaling Jaya are public transportation, recreation, housing and economy (commercial).
“Following that, the development plan approved in the OSC Committee is a strict review on various matters including the provision of public transportation for example the Free Bus Service Voluntary Contribution and First-Mile Last-Mile Plan for Public Facility Users.
“MBPJ also continuously facilitate infrastructure development for Light-Rail Transit System (LRT) and the Mass-Rail Transit System (MRT),” he said during a Monthly Meeting.
The Mercer 2017 Quality of Living Ranking for 231 cities issued by Mercer consultation firm last March 14 revealed Vienna on the highest rank.
Meanwhile, the global ranking in Southeast Asia are Singapore (25), Kuala Lumpur (86), Johor Bahru (103), Bangkok (131), Manila (135) and Jakarta (143).
At Asia level, the five best cities are Singapore (25) and four cities in Japan which are Tokyo (47), Kobe (50), Yokohama (51) and Osaka (60).
Mercer rates cities in the world based on 10 criteria namely public transportation, recreation, housing, the economy, health services, politics and social, education and consumer goods.
Singapore was ranked first in Southeast Asia in the Mercer Quality of Living this year for its world-class infrastructure, sustainability, decent housing and less natural disasters.
