KUALA SELANGOR, MAY 8: For the first time the University of Selangor (UNISEL) has organised the Karnival Smart OKU 2017 last May 5 and 6, at the UNISEL main campus at Bestari Jaya.
The Dean of Development Centre and Foundation Studies, Dr Hamdan Dato’ Mohd Salleh said the programme aims to give exposure and awareness to students and society about People with Disabilities (OKU).
He said, everyone must acknowledge this group who is increasingly comfortable participating and competing in sports.
“UNISEL wants to be the leader in caring for OKU.
“We want to inculcate values of helping each other and respect for each other besides giving the opportunity to students to experience handling OKU in various activities,” he said.
The two-day carnival featured among others the Friday Sermon entitled ‘OKU is Special in Islam’, OKU Discussion, Book Launch, UNISEL Special Student Monologue, OKU and community dialogue session and Man Raja Lawak performance.
During the dialogue session, Zarina Zainuddin, the actress, also came forward to share her experience handling two of her autistic children.
The programme highlight was the Smart OKU Awareness Run jointly organised by OKU non-governmental associations across Selangor, participated by over 400 people consisting of students and OKUs.
The programme organised the UNISEL Development Centre and Foundation Studies also received cooperation from Industrial Psychology Students Club, Community development and Network Unit as well as the Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI).
