Steep parking charges, consumers’ complaints heeded

BATANG KALI, JUL 18: Acting on consumers’ complaints regarding the steep parking charges at the KTM Station here, the Kuala Kubu Baru Assemblyman, Lee Kee Hiong went to the location.

He said, the RM4 charge for cars and RM1 for motorcycles, per entry, which was implemented over a month ago is not only expensive, in fact the collection is not even approved by the Hulu Selangor District Council (MHDS).

Following that, he has written a letter to Transport Minister, Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai for further action.

“KTMB has not applied for business license from MDHS to collect parking charges. KTMB which is a company fully-owned by the Federal Government should by right set an example to other companies,” he wrote in the letter.

Commenting further, Lee said, the Batang Kali Commercial Centre located next to the KTM station is now facing parking issues as commuter users are parking their vehicles there as an alternative.

“Most KTM users who cannot afford to pay the parking rate are forced to park at other locations since KTMB implemented this.

“The commercial area has become an alternative to users as it doesn’t charge for parking. This creates problem for businessmen and people in the commercial area,” he said.

Kee Hiong added that parking charges should not be imposed since it is a public transportation facility for users.

It also impedes the effort to attract people to choose public transport to commute to and from work in order to save cost and time.
