Assemblyman: Budget 2016 should strengthen public transport

SHAH ALAM, 18 Oct: The state government should be focusing of providing public transport in the presentation of the Budget 2016 later this month.

Bukit Gasing Assemblyman, R Rajiv, proposed that the state government increases routes comprehensively so that it can meet the demands of users in the Klang Valley.

He said that the state government should provide allocation to conduct a thorough research in this issue.

“Like the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), at the moment they are preparing a comprehensive review on bus routes so that the network is more complete.

“So, for that we need more provisions to appoint consultants for the study to be conducted,” he told Selangor Kini.

Rajiv said that the state government should make for tough negotiations with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to realise the initiative.

“How we are negotiating in the water restructuring issue, that’s the way it should be done with the SPAD.

“The SPAD only does MRTs but not good bus routes, so we have to do it and think of the best way so that the people will not continue being burdened by the increasing toll rates,” he said.

In addition, he said that the Budget 2016 also needs to continue its efforts in providing affordable housing.
