SHAH ALAM, 28 Aug: The Sabah authorities are urged to accelerate the residence reconstruction of the fire victims from Kampung Pantai Bahagia, Kudat Sabah, for over two months.

The Exco for Health, Welfare, Women and Family Affairs, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that her recent visit revealed that no development has started in the area.

She said that what is more saddening is that many of the victims are still living in community halls.

“Sabah should carry out the resettlement of the victims as promised for the welfare of the people.

“While Selangor, that is far on the Peninsula, is there to present donations. Do they feel no shame by remaining silent without handing out immediate and serious help,” she said in a press statement.

Prior to this, the Selangor delegation, led by Daroyah, called on the victims and also presented donations to the 94 families there.

On June 17, the fire resulted in over 400 residents from Kampung Pantai Bahagia being homeless.

In addition to the donation of essential goods and cash, the Selangor government also presented donations in the form of zinc to the families.

“This zinc is because in the construction of a house, the roof is the most important requirement for a shelter.

“Although it only uses one pole, zinc roofs can shelter and protect us from the rain and sun.

“Selangor gives new hope to the victims,” she said.
