Exco: Federal government should appoint 2 Selangor representatives for the Strate Development Tribunal

SHAH ALAM, 18 Aug: The state government wants two representatives from Selangor to appointed as members of the Strate Development Tribunal (TPS) that is being implemented by the Federal government.

The Exco for Housing, Building Management and Urban Living, Datuk Iskandar Samad, said that TPS was established under the Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757) agrees that a new Act is needed because the old Act has many weaknesses and is incomplete.

“The state government agrees that this new Act is needed because the act used previously, the Building and Common Property Act (Maintenance and Management) 2007 (Act 663), has a lot of flaws.

“The Selangor government had to make additional rules related to strata development to solve development problems,” he said in a statement.

Iskandar said that the TPS was established under the Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757), however the act requires the approval of the states to be implemented at the state level.

He said without state approval, the act cannot be enforced or the TPS cannot be used to solve strata development problems such as apartments and condominiums.

“The state government is always ahead in the effort to solve problems faced by strata development residents.

“This is evident when the Federal government took into account the state government’s efforts when drafting the new act,” he said.

Prior to this, the state government, through the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS), established a spacial committee, PRIHATIN Committee, to hear problems involving strata development.

“But with the enforcement of the new act, TPS took over the duties of PRIHATIN Committee,” he said.

The Selangor State Assembly (DNS) yesterday passed a resolution to give executive power to the Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government to set up the TPS.
