Selangor resolved to be the country’s best athlete producer

BATU CAVES, 2 May: The organisation of the Selangor Sports League (PLUS) at each constituency will be the platform to produce the best athletes to represent the state.

The Exco for Young Generation Development, Sports, Culture and Entrepreneur Development, Amirudin Shari, said that this is in line with Selangor’s aspiration to be the producer and contributor of high-class athletes.

He said that all State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Service Centres have been asked to organise three major sporting programmes; netball, basketball, and futsal.

“We want to see sporting activities become part of the axis or foundations to development in this state and encourage the people’s interest so as to not assume that sports is just a extra activity to fill up spare time.

“We also want to prove that sports can create an industry to develop the country and state,” he said during the PLUS Selangor Netball Opening Ceremony for the Batu Caves DUN at Dataran Belia, near here, today.

The tournament saw the participation of nine amateur groups of women.

Amirudin said that the group that excels in the PLUS championship will be taken to the state level in July to make sure that their talent continues to be polished.

He said that their performance will be assessed by the sport association and those eligible will be selected to represent Malaysia in the future.

“I see that many youths are interested in sports and they have the potential to go even further.

“If the response is very good, we will organise it again next year with a better format,” he said.
