SHAH ALAM, 6 May: The word ‘lackey’ which was asked by the PKR Deputy President, Mohamed Azamin Ali, was a specific question to the Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, and not to all policemen.

His Political Secretary, Shuhaimi Shafiei, said that Mohamed Azmin’s question was for the good of the whole institution and police force in order to be free from political influence.

He stressed that Mohamed Azmin has never been hostile towards the police, especially in carrying out their duties in a professional manner.

“In many talks, Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders, Mohamed Azmin is particular, stated that they are not hostile towards lower level police officers, especially in carrying out their duties in a professional manner.

“In fact, we are aware that security forces and the police, especially those of lower levels, carry out their duties well and are only following instructions,” he said in a press statement.

Prior to this, Mohamed Azmin allegedly uttered the word in a speech at Kubang Ulu, Permatang Pauh.

Shuhaimi cites several cases where no action were taken when it involved Umno-BN leaders.

“Recently, there was a case involving the IGP’s brother who was personally involved in the ‘anti-cross demonstration’ in Petaling Jaya. It was much ‘softer’ compared to activists and PR leaders.

“The investigation was very short; only took a few minutes. Was the IGP not aware of this? Why should there be differences in treatment?

“We also experienced it when a former IGP hit a top leader of PR,” he said.

Shuhaimi wants the question to be personally answered by the IGP and to not let the Senior Police Officers Association to issue a different statement.
