SPECIAL REPORT: FOMCA urges to go through developers’ records

SHAH ALAM, 8 May: Buyers are advised to research thoroughly before deciding to buy property, especially homes.

It is important to prevent them from becoming victims of abandoned projects, which eventually cause them to suffer long lasting losses.

The Deputy President of the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (FOMCA), Mohd Yusof Abdul Rahman, said that consumers must make sure that developers have good records so as to not be cheated.

“Consumers have to be careful and make sure whether the project is licensed or not. Secondly, they need to make sure that the project exists because some consumers do not inspect this.

“Most importantly, consumers must choose developers who have a good track record,” he told Selangor Kini.

Mohd Yusof said that the number of victims caused by the greed of developers has reduced because of the implementation of more stringent laws compared to previously.

However, he said that FOMCA hopes that the existing laws will be improved upon to prevent the occurrence of abandoned projects in the future.
