CM: Maintaining Sedition Act, Najib afraid to make changes

SHAH ALAM, 27 Nov: The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has once again embodies his actual character in the issue of repealing the Sedition Act 1948.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also the PKR Deputy President, described Najib’s previous promise as insincere and merely to gain votes.

He said that prior to the 13th General Election, Najib personally promised several times to repeal this unfair Act.

“This means that he did not honour the promises he expressed himself. Clearly he promised to gain support.

“He is proving that he does not have the courage to implement transformation in the areas he listed himself,” he told reporters at the Selangor State Assembly lobby today.

He was asked to comment on the statement by Najib, who is also the Umno President, during the party’s General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) this morning.

In his speech, Najib said that the decision to maintain the Act is essential to ensuring the sovereignty of Malays and Islam.

“Would it be defending Islam through a cruel provision and without freedom and morals?

“While Islam is a pure religion that guarantees the freedom of the individual freedom as humans and not with cruelty,” said Mohamed Azmin.
