She said that the state government hopes to make Selangor a state that is advanced, peaceful and cares about welfare by 2025 and this will not be possible without the combined effort of all parties.

“The state government, through the main committee to address social ills in Selangor, otherwise known as GEMS, wants to ensure that the people of this state have the best quality of life and is free from social problems,” he said.

Dr Halimah said this when launching the Community Programme with Government Departments and Agencies at the Public Field of Block 4, 5, 6, Pangsapuri Desa Mentari, Petaling Jaya, yesterday.

Also present was the Member of Parliament for Kelana Jaya, Wong Chen; the Assemblyman for Seri Setia, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, representatives of government agencies and over 400 local residents.

The programme also provided an exhibition site featuring about 20 government agencies including the National Registration Department (NRD), the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS), the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS), the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

Also participating in the counter were counters of the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) Scheme such as the Senior Citizen’s Scheme (SMUE), Selangor People’s Tuition centre (PTRS), Women’s Health Scheme (MAMMOGRAM) and the Selangor Wakaf Scheme.

In relation to that, Dr Halimah said that cooperation between government agencies does not mean anything is the residents and the community does not appreciate all the assistance provided.

“Government departments and agencies can help, but not all. If you want to make Desa Mentari a residential dream, everyone should come forward, in addition to being eager and determined to make this a desirable place of residence.

“All assistance and provisions given, for things like repairing lifts, should be cared for together and the people need to work together to address social problems in the community,” she said.
