Residents Worried That Their Homes Will Continue to Crack Due to the LRT Extension Project

PUCHONG, 27 Feb: About 30 families from Taman Cahaya, Sinar and Senja in Banar Kinrara are living in fear when the structure of their homes, which they have occupied for almost four years, cracked, believed to be due to the light rapid transit (LRT) extension project which is currently underway.

What’s more disturbing is that the cracks are worsening, in addition to serious damage of roads in the area as it is heavily traversed by heavy vehicles every day.

The Zone 18 Residents’ Committee Deputy Chairman, Amin Mohd, said that the infrastructural projects undertaken by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) started on 10 June 2012, without giving notice to the local residents.

What is disappointing is the mega project that costs millions of ringgit threatens the safety of residents, especially children, and has started causing damage some existing facilities, such as the playground.

He said that numerous complaints have been made against the developers, Binapuri and Prasarana, over the past two years; however no feedback has been given to this day.

“I am sad because this mega development project is not being implemented well because it does not consider the safety of the residents, and all complaints made via letters have not been entertained.

“The residents are disappointed because since this project was implemented, our homes started cracking, in fact, some have experienced leakages and this is certainly not a trivial issue.

“We want to solve this problem properly and to not stop any development, but the developers should take note of the residents’ anxiety,” he told Selangor Kini.

BK9/5 Residents’ Association Deputy Secretary, Husin Idris, said that most of the building materials are often left at the playground without any supervision.

He said that the fence erected is close to the playground and sometimes, it is not locked and the people are exposed to danger, especially the children.

“The equipment brought here is often left as it is and this is certainly a dangerous situation. I hope we can solve this problem in a professional manner,” he said.

Meanwhile, a council member of the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ), Michael Noel Jalleh, said that they will monitor this situation from time to time to ensure that the appointed developers are responsible for the problems faced by the residents.

He said that this incident is not only experienced by the residents in the area, but also to several homes in other locations, due to this LRT project.

“Prasarana should be responsible for the problems occurring because this often happens when there is an LRT line.

“We will monitor this situation from time to time and hope that this problem can be resolved,” he said.

Te Ampang LRT line, through Sri Petaling and ending at Bukit Jalil, is expected to be completed next year.
