MB Discusses 6 Continuous Hours to Find the Best Solution for Water Supply Issues

SHAH ALAM, 21 Feb: The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) were in a meeting for almost 6 hours to discuss strategies to address the impact of the hot and dry weather on the security of the state’s water supply.

The Executive Councillor in charge of the Local Government, Studies and Research, Datuk Teng Chang Khim, revealed this on his social networking site yesterday.

“The Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES), chaired by the Chief Minister, was in a meeting from 2.30pm to 8.10pm non-stop to solve 15 motions, including water rationing,” said Chang Khim.

In other developments, the Chief Minister of Negeri Sembilan, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan, said that there is a shortage of water in Negeri Sembilan through several contingency plans.

Yesterday, the media reported that Negeri Semblian has declared a crisis.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KETTHA) asked water operators to seek approval from the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) before implementing a rationing programme.

“Water operators need to justify the move, with contingency plans, including strategic management, scheduling, communication and mitigation plans,” said KeTTHA in a statement.

So far, only Syarikat Air Johor Holdings (SAJH) has been given approval to implement water rationing in Kluang, Johor.

Meanwhile, two treatment plants in Cheras Batu 11 and Bukit Tampoi remains closed due to the high levels of ammonia pollution.
