The two of them will be showcased in the Leisurely Chat segment in the Selangor Dream Generation Programme (GEMS) in conjunction with the New Year’s Eve celebration which will be held on 31 December at the Shah Alam Independence Square.

The Exco in charge of Education, Higher Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Halimah Ali, said that this is different from the new year celebrations in most states. GEMS in conjunction with the 2014 New Year’s Eve celebration also focuses on the Anti-Fornication Campaign to curb fornication among the current generation.

“This is a programme involving government departments and agencies under GEMS, where we will organise alternative programmes from the usual new year celebration which usually holds programmes that neglect youth resulting in the youth being involved in social problems such as fornication, drunkenness and so on.

“Nine months later, a child will be born out of wedlock. Some throw these children away, sell them and so on. So we see this as a programme that educates the younger generation that having is fun is alright but fill it with things that avoid them from committing sin,” said Dr Halimah when met by Selangor Kini at her office at the State Government Secretary building yesterday.

Prior to that, Dr Halimah chaired the GEMS Coordination Meeting in conjunction with the 2014 New Year’s Eve Celebration at the Sectoral Section Chrysanthemum Meeting Room, UPEN, to coordinate the setting up of the programme which will begin at 5pm that evening.

Also enlivening the programme is a young singer from Indonesia, Tegar; master of ceremony David Teoh, comedian Sathiya and actress, Diana Amir.

The GEMS 2014 New Year’s Eve Programme, with the concept emphasising on educational programmes, would be the third time held since 2011.

The previous programme received encouraging response with almost 100,000 attendees, while broadcast on youtube reached over one million visitors.
