Termination of PKNS staff saves RM7mil

SHAH ALAM, Feb 6th: The step taken to terminate 22 contracted staff at PKNS Holdings Sdn Bhd
has yielded operational cost savings amounting to RM 7 million a year.

Selangor Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim stated that the termination of contracts were the product of the Integrity Pact policy implemented by PKNS in effort to emulate good corporate administrative practices.

Abdul Khalid said that the decision to dismiss the contracted staff was based on the organisational restructuring of PKNS headed by the new General Manager, Azlan Alfiah.

4a“This decision has has seen cost savings of RM7 million a year and these high costs are the cries of the ‘whistle blower’ groups.”

“That is in addition to the problem of overlapping responsibilities and tasks between the 22 employees with the existing staff at PKNS.”

“Their employment does not bring profits but instead it has become extra costs,” he said at a press conference at the SUK Building here, today.

Previously, the media reported that 22 contracted staff at PKNS were dismissed without cause and advance notice.

Abdul Khalid, who is also the PKNS Chairman, explained further that the step taken to terminate these contracts would also give the existing employees the opportunity to advance their careers and getting promotions.

4b“Initially, someone revealed that the chances of being promoted within PKNS were stunted as such opportunities were given to outsiders via contracts which offered substantive salaries.”

“This was done without taking into account the expertise and experience of the preexisting employees who have served for 15 years on a salary of nearly RM4,000 and yet these opportunities were given to outsiders for twice their salary,” he said.

At the same time, he also described the procedure of terminating the contracts were in line with terms and conditions, which is intended for the benefit of PKNS and its subsidiaries.

“This includes a review of joint ventures and projects, restructuring of PKNS accounts as well as strategies to boost profits.”

“The state administration will be closely supervising the growth of PKNS to ensure that the company’s resources are managed professionally so that it provides maximum benefits to the people of Selangor, mirroring the state agenda, ‘State Gains for the People of the State’.
