SHAH ALAM, SEP 13: 24 Lancaster University students from United Kingdom recently participated in the Traditional Games and Local Fruits Carnival organised by University of Selangor (Unisel) recently.
According to Unisel’s official website, the UK students attended as volunteers of the annual English Camp jointly organised by Ijok Assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad, ‘The Reading Bus Club’ and Sunway University.
“Students were exposed to Malaysian traditions including Malay kompang presentations and Indian musical instruments and were greeted by the famous Chinese lion dance.
“They were also introduced to traditional games including tarik upih, batu Seremban, congkak, ketingting, lastik getah, lompat tikus and jalan atas tempurung kelapa,” he said in a statement.
The carnival was successfully organised by 42 students from Unisel and is a continuation of the Traditional Games Carnival (KAPETRA) that took place at Unisel Bestari Jaya earlier this year.
Idris said that the carnival is able to introduce Malaysian culture to foreigners as well as provide room for Unisel students and the Ijok community to converse with foreigners in English.
